Monty is host of Deep Cuts In The Wolf Den every Saturday night at 8:00 on 517Rocks. He has over 45 years of broadcast radio experience beginning in 1976 as an intern at famous KROQ in Pasadena, California. Monty's first professional radio position was weekend overnights at WKXA in Brunswick, Maine. From there, his career blossomed as he gained experience in several formats, finally settling as a News Anchor at KKOH Reno, Nevada’s perpetually #1 radio station, until he retired in April 2023. Monty's first love and expertise is the music and artists on which he focuses his shows.
During the 1980s, his mobile DJ service, Wolf Trax Rockin’ Oldies Show, was judged 4 times (among all genres) by readers of Sweet Potato Magazine as The Best Mobile DJ Service in New England from 1985-1991. During that time, Monty made dozens of concert introductions from Jethro Tull to Yes (Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, and Howe).
Reno is known as an “Events City” and Monty has been Master of Ceremonies/Host at all of the biggest events from Street Vibrations and Hot August Nights to local TV shows and the annual Virginia City International Camel Races, where he is Honorary Mayor. Monty has filed live news reports with a lemur on his head and while upside-down in an aerobatic aircraft. He has also held Land Speed Records, one in excess of 200 MPH. Monty also has a non-speaking role in the Anthony Hopkins Movie The World’s Fastest Indian.
He is a lifetime member of the Nevada Broadcasters Association’s Hall of Fame and the Land Speed Racers Hall of Fame.
